Screening of Salt Tolerance in Different Varieties of Hordeum vulgare

چکیده
Soil salinity is the major abiotic stress in plant agriculture strongly influencing productivity worldwide and it delimit the crop yield. Several abiotic stresses are united by the fact that at least part of their detrimental effect on plant performance is caused by disruption of plant water status. This can occur through decreased availability of water in the environment during drought, altered ion content and water uptake caused by salinity or cellular dehydration caused by formation of extracellular ice during freezing stress. Barley is used as food and in production of beverage all over the world. In the present study, screening of few barley varieties for their tolerance against salt stresses and then be able to find the best tolerant variety. In the experimental set up, Hoagland medium is used for hydroponic studies in which seeds were grown on different salt concentration to find out their salt tolerance. Out of five varieties of Hordeum vulgare BH 924 and RD 2508 are the good salt tolerant varieties in comparison to others.

Multivariate Assessment of Salt Tolerance (NaCl) in Barley (Hordeum Volgar L.) Genotypes
Nowadays salt tolerance of crops is becoming more and more important, owing to the constant increase of salinity in arid and semi arid regions. This research was carried out in order to test of different salinity levels effects on yield of barley (Hordeum Volgar L.) genotypes, in split plot experiment on the base of Randomized Completely Block Design with 3 replications. Salinity treatment ...

AbstractThis study was undertaken to better understand the probable mechanisms of salt stress tolerance induced by seed priming of salicylic acid (SA) in barley. The barley seeds were pre-soaked by SA or water and then sown under different saline watering regimes including 0.62 (tapwater), 5, 10 and 15 dS m-1 in petri dishes and trend of water absorbing, seedling growth, germination rate and pe...
متن کاملSalt tolerance in wild Hordeum species is associated with restricted entry of Na+ and Cl- into the shoots.
Eight wild Hordeum species: H. bogdanii, H. intercedens, H. jubatum, H. lechleri, H. marinum, H. murinum, H. patagonicum, and H. secalinum, and cultivated barley (H. vulgare) were grown in nutrient solution containing 0.2 (control), 150, 300, or 450 mol m(-3) NaCl. In saline conditions, the wild Hordeum species (except H. murinum) had better Na+ and Cl- 'exclusion', and maintained higher leaf K...
